Lost in the hoopla of apathy and self-indulgence, I reminisced the fortieth anniversary of my Class 'A'.

October 19, 1978 found me in an interminably disinterested line of applicants at the Colorado DMV.  It's success

ensured my ability to tote overpriced junk onward into the future of De-Regulation.  It entitled me to wander about Colorado experiencing the joys of such amazing feats of engineering such as the Mousetrap, unplowed roads, and most importantly, I-70 with all it's atmospheric wonders.

Later I would learn that I actually made better wages before Congress got involved, and in the interest of whatever they claimed at the time, simply handed the responsibility of Regulation from one group of good-ol

boys to another.   I would learn that De-Regulation entitled anyone whom could file an Incorporation could

suddenly, and completely without thought, BE A Trucking Company.

Few give thought to the fact that the quality of your company is reflected in your employees.

As a result of De-Regulation, I also learned that the Interstate System is a National Security Interest.

It was the reason, and still is, why the trucking industry cannot shut down the highways during labor

disputes the way they do in Europe.

So, in forty years no one has ever given me a trophy; plenty of grief, no trophy.

Imagine, for the sake of hypothesis. the Commanding Officers temperament for the rest of the other thirty-two hours of that work week.

A Picture Is Worth A Thousand Words

Arguably, Frank Dux was the greatest competitive Martial Arts Fighter of the Twentieth Century.

His book has and continues to create controversy many would prefer to ignore.

It isn't fair to Marilyn to post this here, and it is better suited for Parade's relationship with Hollywood;

and fairness is the very last verb I would wish upon this subject.

I am not disposed to cross the street for Hollywood or Parade.  Having set that matter straight, - The Mule is in theaters.

mid-flight meal, sheep participating in reality television, and a white elephant struggling with reality...

The Federal-Aid Highway Act of 1956, popularly known as the National Interstate and Defense Highways Act (Public Law 84-627), was enacted on June 29, 1956, when President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed the bill into law. With an original authorization of $25 billion for the construction of 41,000 miles (66,000 km) of the Interstate Highway System supposedly over a 10-year period, it was the largest public works project in American history through that time.[1]

The addition of the term "defense" in the act's title was for two reasons: First, some of the original cost was diverted from defense funds. Secondly, most U.S. Air Force bases have a direct link to the system. One of the stated purposes was to provide access in order to defend the United States during an attack[citation needed]. All of these links were in the original plans, although some, such as Wright Patterson AFB were not connected up in the 1950s, but only somewhat later.

The money for the Interstate Highway and Defense Highways was handled in a Highway Trust Fund that paid for 90 percent of highway construction costs with the states required to pay the remaining 10 percent. It was expected that the money would be generated through new taxes on fuel, automobiles, trucks, and tires. As a matter of practice, the federal portion of the cost of the Interstate Highway System has been paid for by taxes on gasoline and diesel fuel.[2]

The Four lane Interstate System as we know it was for the most part, designed and built in 1956.

I plan my way around peak travel periods and peak usage periods such as rush hours and holidays.

Unsurprisingly, surface or local streets are safer.  Slower speeds and for the most part, timed or controlled movement of groups of vehicles.

So - plan travel and plan wisely, including giving wide berth to the rush hour madness...
